Pitta dosha, by its very nature, is linked to heat and transformation within the body. When aggravated, this internal heat doesn’t just impact digestion but extends to the skin and scalp too. Excessive Pitta accelerates metabolic functions, causing premature aging of the hair follicles. This means that if left unchecked, Pitta aggravation can shrink follicles over time, leading to thinning and eventual hair fall. At Traya, we observe that many patients with chronic hair fall report signs of Pitta imbalance before they even notice hair thinning.

Symptoms of Pitta Dosha

Ayurveda, an ancient Indian system of medicine, pitta is one of the three doshas or body types, and is associated with fire and water elements. When pitta is in balance, it is believed to promote good digestion, healthy metabolism, and a sharp intellect. However, when pitta is out of balance, it can lead to a range of physical and emotional symptoms. Here are some common symptoms of pitta dosha imbalance:

Digestive issues: Pitta imbalance can lead to symptoms such as heartburn, acid reflux, diarrhea, and inflammation in the digestive tract.

Skin problems: Excessive pitta can cause skin problems such as rashes, acne, and redness, as well as premature aging.

Irritability: Pitta imbalance can cause irritability, anger, impatience, and a tendency to criticize or judge others.

Excessive sweating: Pitta imbalance can cause excessive sweating, especially in hot or humid weather.

Inflammation: Pitta imbalance can lead to inflammation in various parts of the body, including joints, muscles, and organs.

Fatigue: When pitta is out of balance, it can lead to feelings of exhaustion and burnout.

Poor vision: Pitta imbalance can cause vision problems such as sensitivity to light, blurry vision, and eye inflammation.

Menstrual issues: Women with pitta imbalance may experience heavy, painful periods or irregular menstrual cycles.

In addition to the symptoms already discussed, you might also notice:

  • Warm palms and soles, even in moderate weather.

  • Unexplained irritability post meals.

  • Increased sensitivity to spicy foods.

  • Early onset of greying in combination with thinning.

  • A noticeable increase in body heat even without exertion.

These are subtle indicators that your body's internal fire is exceeding balance. Addressing these early can help prevent long-term hair issues associated with aggravated Pitta.

How Does Pitta Dosha Affect Hair Fall?

Elevated Pitta dosha inflames the scalp’s environment, making it inhospitable for healthy hair roots. Chronic inflammation constricts blood flow, which reduces the supply of essential nutrients and oxygen to your follicles. Over time, this weakens the follicle structure and accelerates shedding.

Moreover, when your body overheats internally, it also increases the secretion of oils on the scalp. This creates a breeding ground for fungal or bacterial growth, which worsens hair fall. By cooling the system internally and calming scalp inflammation, you can support natural regrowth.

          5) Avoid Foods That Increase Acidic pH

Stay away from foods that increase the acidic pH of your body. Such as caffeine, alcohol, processed foods, fermented foods, etc

            6) Consume Fiber-Rich Foods

Start consuming foods that are rich in fibres, good fats, vitamins and nutrients

              7) Stay Hydrated

                8) Use Ayurvedic Herbs

There are lots of home remedies to balance your pitta dosha hair fall. They comprise herbs that are helpful for your pitta. Ayurvedic pitta home remedies are the best way to reduce your pitta faster.

                  • Amalaki or amla
                  • Neem
                  • Triphala
                  • Ghee made of cow’s milk
                  • Kalyanaka ghrita is ayurvedic ghee - it contains herbs like Triphala, pomegranate, and indian madder
                  • Cumin seeds or jeera with lukewarm water
                  • Elaichi or cardamom.

                   9) Practice Yoga

Yoga is one of the best ways to reduce body health. Here are the best yoga poses to help balance your pitta dosha levels.

                    • Balasana - The child pose, you have to sit on your knees with the help of your hand. Now, bring both hands to the sides of your knees. After that, twist your head and try to touch the floor with the help of your forehead.
                    • Marjaryasana - Cat and cow pose, incorporates taking your knee and hand in position. Hold your hand on the floor. Now, inhale by arching your spine to build a cat position.
                    • Bhujangasana - Cobra pose, is also an effective yoga pose for pitta dosha. You have to lay down on your stomach with the help of your hands under the shoulder. Then, try to lift your shoulders and head. Now, inhale and exhale while lowering yourself down.
                    • Jathara Parivartanasana - Spinal twist, is another great yoga position for pitta. You have to lie down on your back. Then, bend your knees and lift your feet. Don’t forget that your calf should be parallel to the floor. Put both your shoulders out and then inhale. Twist your knees to the left side while exhaling.
                    • You can also perform pranayama and breathing exercises altogether. Sheetali pranayama is one of the effective exercises that incorporate inhaling from your mouth and exhaling from your nose.

                    10) Avoid Excessive Sun Exposure

Pitta dosha is associated with the fire element, so excessive exposure to heat and sunlight can aggravate pitta and lead to hair fall.

                      11) Avoid Using Harsh Chemicals

Chemical treatments such as hair dyes, relaxers, and perms can damage the hair and contribute to hair fall. These treatments can strip the hair of its natural oils, leading to dryness and breakage.

                        12) Opt for Cooling Beverages

Coconut water, aloe vera juice, and fennel tea can help cool down the internal system and reduce Pitta.

                        13) Practice Sheetali Pranayama

This yogic breathing technique helps cool the body and calm the mind, reducing internal heat.

                        14) Oil Massage Before Washing Hair

Use cooling oils like Bhringraj or Brahmi oil for scalp massages. This reduces heat buildup and soothes the follicles.

                        15) Wear Protective Headgear

If you're out in the sun for long durations, wear a breathable hat or scarf to shield your scalp from direct heat exposure.

                        16) Night-time Hydration

Drinking a glass of water before bedtime helps regulate body temperature and flush out heat toxins overnight.

These small yet consistent changes act synergistically with your Traya treatment to accelerate results.

Hair Loss Has Multiple Root Causes

While Pitta imbalance is a significant contributor, we should also consider that hair loss is often multi-dimensional:

                        • Emotional stress increases cortisol levels, disrupting your hair cycle.

                        • Nutrient deficiencies, especially iron and vitamin B12, compromise follicle strength.

                        • Poor gut health can hinder the absorption of hair-nourishing nutrients.

                        • Hormonal fluctuations, especially androgens like DHT, further accelerate thinning.

At Traya, our approach is to combine Ayurvedic, nutritional, and dermatological expertise to address all possible angles of hair loss. This ensures long-term improvement, not just short-term relief.

How do we use Amalaki to stop your hair loss?

Amla is a rasayana ingredient. It helps balance all doshas and is especially beneficial in reducing pitta. At Traya we prescribe amalaki two ways to help improve your hair health and overall health. The internal supplement helps reduce pitta while the external application allows to repair damage done by pitta to the hair follicles and roots.

In addition to its internal and topical uses, Amalaki supports hair health in other critical ways:

                        • Detoxification: It helps flush out excess heat and toxins from the blood, reducing the inflammatory burden on hair follicles.

                        • Antioxidant Shield: Rich in vitamin C and polyphenols, it protects your scalp from oxidative stress that damages follicles.

                        • Hormonal Balance: Amalaki helps regulate hormones that influence hair fall, including cortisol and androgens.

When combined with other Ayurvedic herbs in Traya’s treatment plan, Amalaki amplifies its effects — offering not just relief from symptoms, but also long-term restoration of hair health.

                        Traya Hair Ras

                        Hair Ras - supplement

Hair ras contains numerous potent Ayurvedic herbs that help improve hair health along with amalaki. Amalaki as a supplement is an excellent Rasayana. It is rich in phytonutrients, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants and thus reduces the activity of free radicals. It is the richest source of vitamin C thus helps in increasing scalp circulation and stimulating healthy growth. It also helps to increase collagen production which helps in the regeneration of hair follicles. This helps in being a hair loss prevention treatment as in stimulating hair growth and increasing hair volume.

                        Traya Scalp Oil

Traya Scalp Oil - topical application

Traya's scalp oil helps reduce excessive heat on the scalp, has a cooling effect on your scalp, it helps you feel calm and relaxed. Not only that by increasing blood flow to your scalp when used with a gentle massage it also boosts hair growth. We use amla in our oil formula to strengthen the scalp and hair, reduce premature greying and stimulate hair growth. Moreover, it also prevents dandruff, scalp irritation and dryness.

                        Takeaway
