Avocado Oil For Hair

“You can’t make everyone happy, you are not an Avocado”, goes the famous saying. Truly an avocado is one such fruit that has something to offer for every individual. Not only does consuming this superfood bring many health benefits, the topical application of avocado oil also has multiple benefits for hair. Avocados provide a lot of nutrition for hair growth.

Avocado oil is rich in vitamins, minerals, anti-inflammatory properties, antioxidants, essential fatty acids, vitamins A, B-5, and E which are beneficial for hair and  scalp. Avocado oil is full of monounsaturated fats. This helps the oil penetrate your hair shaft easily. Less water is absorbed when the hair follicles are soaked with oil, it results in less swelling. Avocado oil can protect the hair from damage due to repeated swelling or drying of hair, thus minimizing hair breakage.

This oil is lighter in nature so one can apply it without worrying about greasy hair or your hair looking flat. This doesn’t clog the pores. This can be a great choice for all hair types. Either with medium/low porosity and medium/low density hair, or for high porosity or high-density hair. These are some of the potent avocado benefits for hair.

What are the Benefits of Avocado Oil for Hair?

There are numerous avocado oil benefits for hair. It protects hair from environmental pollutants. It acts as a moisturizer for both hair and scalp and also helps repair damaged hair.

What makes avocado oil special is its non-clogging property. It can penetrate into the scalp through thick, high density hair strands, thus making it a perfect choice for all hair types. It is lightweight and so acts as a moisturizing agent, adding shine to thinner hair types without weighing it down and making it look flat. Avocados can moisturize, repair, and strengthen your hair. As per a study done by International Journal of Trichology in 2015, it was found that avocado oil can help seal cuticle cells, which can prevent hair from breaking.

It can easily penetrate into the dermis; thus it is a great solution for dry or sensitive skin. This way it provides deep moisturizing to the skin. It helps prevent skin conditions like dandruff and psoriasis. Since it contains Vitamin E it is useful to curb the damage done by harmful rays of the sun. It acts as a barrier against the UV rays.

Contribution of avocado for hair growth is very significant due to the presence of vitamin D in it. Vitamin D plays a vital role in the growth of new hair follicles.

It can also be used to detangle your hair. You can apply a little amount of avocado oil to the ends of your hair for detangling and smooth hair brushing.

Apart from applying the oil to your scalp, adding avocado to your diet and adding avocado oil in your cooking too can help you reap the benefits of the fruit. This will help in stronger hair growth.

How to Use Avocado Oil for Hair Growth

Moisturize your scalp by massaging avocado oil into your scalp. It helps promote blood circulation, strengthens the roots and facilitates growth. It stimulates blood flow and unclogs blocked follicles. This helps in controlling hair fall. To prevent hair breakage, apply avocado oil to the hair ends. This helps preserve the moisture.

While massaging the scalp, slightly heat a small amount of oil. Separate the hair into sections so that you can oil the scalp easily. Massage the scalp with your finger tips in circular motion. Leave it on for 45 minutes to a few hours and then rinse it off with a regular shampoo.

Use avocado oil for hair as it can also be used as an intensive conditioner. This can work well for those with dry or damaged hair. After rinsing the shampoo, apply a small amount of avocado oil to your hair. Leave it on for some time and then rinse it off with warm water. The omega-3 and omega-9 fatty acids present in avocado oil help make this oil a good styling serum.

DIY Avocado Oil Hair Conditioning Masks

A variety of conditioning hair masks can be made using avocado oil. You can directly use the mashed avocado fruit by removing the seed in between and peeling the skin. The oil in the pulp makes your hair shiny and healthy. To this you can add 1 egg yolk and 1 tablespoon of honey. The hair should be clean and damp. Leave it for 30 minutes. Rinse it with a mild shampoo. This is one of the best avocado oil benefits for hair.

If you want to avoid eggs then you can make the hair mask with the following items: 1 avocado,1 banana, 1 tbsp. avocado oil,1 tbsp. coconut oil and1 tbsp. honey. In a blender make a puree of the avocado and the banana. To the puree add the two avocado oil and coconut oil and honey. Let the mix rest for a few hours. It should rest for a minimum of at least 20 minutes. Wash off the mask with warm water or a mild shampoo.
