Abstract
Hair loss has become a common concern in India over the past decade. Over 60% of the Indian adult population has pattern hair loss to some degree. The objective of this case study is to share insights of using a holistic treatment - Ayurveda, Dermatology and Nutrition for male pattern hair loss between the stages of 1-4 and in the age group of 20-40.
Modern science believes that hair loss is a result of poor follicle health due to the effects of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Therefore, all dermatological solutions (minoxidil, fin, redensyl, procapil) are targeted towards stimulating follicles or reducing DHT levels in the body.
Ayurvedic studies have shown that hair loss (Khalitya) is internal and is a result of pitta imbalance. Which is a result of poor dietary habits, sleep disturbances, high stress, poor internal health, health conditions and medication. Therefore, they recommend treatments that improve internal health such as rasayana herbs and nasya.
Several studies have shown that nutritional deficiency may impact both hair structure and hair growth. Studies have also reported potential associations between nutritional deficiency and androgenetic alopecia (AGA) or male pattern hair loss (MPHL). It is established that there is enough scientific evidence to suggest that hair health is affected by multiple factors apart from just poor follicle health. And therefore, a holistic treatment plan will be most suitable for efficiently treating hair loss.
Introduction
Hair loss treatments often fail to give long term results because they are one-dimensional. This means that a dermatological treatment will only focus on follicle health and hair cycle. An ayurvedic treatment will help control root causes such as digestion, metabolism, absorption and hormonal balance but not be able to drastically improve hair follicle health to synchronise hair cycles. And a healthy and nutritious diet is good to maintain hair health but cannot be a substitute for a hair loss treatment . Which is a complex medical condition that has various root causes and triggers. Therefore, a combined solution is the best and most sustainable way to manage hair loss for long term results and effective regrowth.
Methodology
Sample Size: 5 participants (all men)
Age group: Between the age of 20-40
Stage of hair loss: 1-4
Type of hair loss: Androgenetic Alopecia or Male Pattern Baldness
Location: Pan-India
We at Traya only treat people between the stages of 1-4 of pattern hair loss. We choose these stages and the age group of 20-40, because here we can guarantee regrowth. Because people in these stages have active follicles, which can be revived. Whereas, stage 5 onwards hair follicles start dying and cannot be stimulated. They can only be treated successfully with a hair transplant. The treatment of these participants was followed over a span of 5 months. The progress of internal health issues such as digestion, sleep, stress, nutrition, scalp health and follicle health was observed. The progress was self-reported, however hair density and volume was observed by comparing scalp images from month 0 to month 5.

Results:
As you can see all these individuals, although suffering from genetic male pattern hair loss, had different internal health triggers that were aggravating their condition. Therefore, it was important to treat them for those while working on stimulating their follicles. It is also necessary to note that these people saw successful results because they were between stage 1-4 of pattern hair loss where one has active follicles which can be revived using stimulators such as topical minoxidil 5% fortified with 0.01% fin. Not only that by changing their diet and fixing their internal health they now have minimal maintenance to ensure that their hair volume and density stays normal. And finally, using Ayurveda and nutrition has allowed them to be healthier individuals with their internal health issues resolved.
Please note: These treatments were only successful because these customers followed the plan consistently for the recommended duration.
