PCOS & Hormonal Imbalances
Around 20–30% of people with PCOS face signs of female pattern hair loss.
How does it happen?
Hormonal imbalances, such as in PCOS, can increase the levels of DHT (Dihydrotestosterone), a hormone primarily responsible for triggering and accelerating genetic hair loss. DHT causes hair thinning by shrinking the hair follicle and shortening the growth phase of the hair cycle.
Signs that your hair loss is due to hormonal imbalances
Excess facial hair growth in females (hirsutism), frequent acne flare ups, irregular periods, drastic weight loss or weight gain.
Pregnancy & Postpartum
On average, around 40-50% of women experience postpartum or post-pregnancy hair loss.
How does it happen?
Hair loss after delivery is linked with drastic drop in certain hormones like estrogen and gonadotropin, which were at peak during pregnancy. A decrease in these hormones affects the hair cycle by increasing the resting phase and decreasing the growth phase of the hair strand. This causes excessive shedding and hair fall.
Signs that your hair loss is due to postpartum
Being in one year within childbirth.
Menopause
Around 66% of females lose hair after menopause, making menopause one of the main triggers of hair loss in women.
How does it happen?
Perimenopause and menopause refers to the stage where women experience a gradual decrease in the menstrual cycles, or periods, till a point where it eventually stops. It happens between the ages of 38-58, but can start sooner or later in some cases. As the frequency of the menstrual cycle decreases, ovaries make less estrogen hormone. These hormonal changes impact health of women and lead to a variety of side effects like hot flashes, mood swings and hair loss.
Signs that your hair loss is due to menopause:
Being in or around the menopausal age (perimenopause), irregular periods or completely stopped periods
Nutrition
On average, around 40-50% of women experience postpartum or post-pregnancy hair loss.
How it affects hair?
Hair needs a variety of micro and macronutrients to support healthy hair growth - iron, biotin, proteins, zinc, and the list goes on. Lacking these nutrients can interfere with the growth process and lead to hair loss.
Signs that your hair loss is due to poor nutrition:
Extreme weight loss or malnourishment, anaemia, muscle wasting, having vitamin or mineral deficiencies.
Metabolism and lifestyle
Stress related hair fall is the second most common type of hair fall in India.
How it affects hair?
Poor lifestyle practices like lack of sleep, high stress, smoking, and low physical activity can all be a contributing factor to accelerated hair fall. Moreover, health conditions like hypothyroidism can affect the metabolism further and slow down hair growth.
Signs that your hair loss is due to poor metabolism or lifestyle
Poor mental health, not getting enough sleep at night, having thyroid disorders, excessive smoking or alcohol consumption and sedentary lifestyle.
Santulan: Revolutionising The Art Of Balance
Santulan:
Revolutionising The Art Of Balance
According to Ayurveda, an imbalance or 'a santulan' in the body can be a leading cause of several ailments, including hair loss.
Santulan™ is a supplementary concept to Traya's powerful combination of 3 Sciences(Ayurveda, Dermatology, Nutrition) that has been formulated to meet bio-specific hair needs of women in different phases of life, by promoting a balance or 'santulan' in the body, thereby promoting healthy hair growth.
The 3 Sciences
A carefully designed synergistic mix of Ayurveda, Dermatology & Nutrition, Traya's combination of 3 sciences cater to hair loss by addressing its multiple root causes.
Ayurveda
A preventive science that goes to the root of the problem, Ayurveda focuses on healing by promoting an internal balance (santulan) between the mind, body, spirit and environment. The SantulanTM range is based on the same principles of Ayurvedic science.
Dermatology
A curative science that targets the spot and allows regrowth, dermatology directly works on the follicular level to tackle hair loss and induce hair growth. Our dermatology range consists of formulations with clinically tested compounds and bio-active ingredients.
Nutrition
Being both preventive as well as curative, nutrition helps address the root causes like deficiencies and aims at providing a healthier environment for hair growth. Our customised healing diet plans provided by experienced nutritionists and dieticians help increase the efficacy of the hair routine.
