When “Just Dandruff” Started Taking His Hair
“I’ve had this oily dandruff for two - three years now… and the hair is falling a lot,” he said quietly.
Let’s call him Neeraj, a young man from a small city who lifts weights at the gym and is counting down to his wedding in a few months. For a long time, he brushed off the flakes as a minor issue. But recently, what scared him was not just what he saw on his shoulders - it was what he saw in his hands.
“After I wash and dry my hair, when I just run my fingers through, ten - fifteen small hairs come out. And during the day, even more break,” he told the Traya coach.
He had tried to fix it on his own: a popular “keto” dandruff shampoo, a short, inconsistent trial of minoxidil, a few tablets prescribed locally. Nothing stuck, nothing was consistent, and nothing really worked. As his wedding date got closer, his anxiety grew.
“That’s when I thought, let me try Traya properly for five - six months and see.”
Living With Oily Dandruff and Daily Shedding
For Neeraj, the dandruff wasn’t the dry, dusty kind. It was heavy and oily, sticking to his scalp until it came off under his nails.
“When I scratch, it gets stuck in my nails,” he said, a little embarrassed.
This kind of build-up doesn’t just look bad. When the scalp is constantly coated with oil, flakes, and fungus, hair roots don’t get a healthy environment. It becomes easier for strands to loosen at the root and break with the slightest friction - like towel drying or just running fingers through wet hair.
On top of that, he had started going to the gym to gain weight and muscle, which meant more sweat, more heat, and more frequent hair washes. He was also dealing with constipation that came and went: “Sometimes two - three days are okay, then again the constipation comes back.”
Tests had shown a low vitamin B12 level and a raised uric acid level, for which a local doctor had started supplements. All of this formed the backdrop of his scalp story: a body under subtle stress, a gut not always regular, and a scalp that had been angry for years.
The Root Causes Behind His Hair Fall
On the call, the Traya coach listened, then traced the problem back to a combination of issues rather than a single culprit.
First, the oily dandruff. The coach explained that dandruff like his, which sits heavy on the scalp and comes off under the nails, accelerates hair fall. The fungus, inflammation, and constant scratching weaken the follicle’s grip. Left untreated for two - three years, this kind of dandruff and dry scalp hair loss often turns into chronic shedding and thinning.
Second, the gut. Neeraj’s “on and off” constipation told another part of the story. In Ayurveda, sluggish bowels and toxin build-up disturb digestion and absorption. When the gut is not consistently clear, nutrients don’t reach hair follicles efficiently, even if you’re eating well or taking vitamins. This is exactly the digestion and hair fall connection the coach wanted him to understand.
Third, lifestyle and deficiencies. He was pushing himself at the gym and had documented vitamin B12 deficiency. His coach reinforced the importance of staying on his B12 and D3 supplements while Traya addressed scalp, gut, and nutrition together.
To Neeraj, this was the first time someone had connected his scalp, gut, and lifestyle into one picture instead of treating them as isolated problems.
Can dandruff really cause long-term hair loss?
The coach answered him simply: yes, when dandruff is oily, persistent, and itchy for years, it creates chronic inflammation on the scalp. This weakens hair follicles, triggers more shedding, and can slow regrowth. Clearing dandruff early and maintaining scalp health is essential to stop this cycle and protect hair density.
His Doubts: “How Do I Use All This… And Will It Work?”
When his first Traya kit arrived, Neeraj did something symbolic - he threw away all his old products.
“I’ve taken the Traya kit now… after that I’ve thrown everything else,” he said. “I want to continue this for five - six months and see.”
But with that decision came very practical doubts. He asked them one by one on the call, wanting to get everything right.
He held up the anti-dandruff night lotion: “Should I apply this daily or sometimes?” He was worried about overdoing it.
He unscrewed the Scalp Oil and saw it had solidified in the cold: “The scalp oil is jammed because of the winter… is this okay?” He needed reassurance that this was normal.
Then he asked the most important usage question, repeating it until he was sure: “If I apply the anti-dandruff lotion at night, can I put the scalp oil on in the morning, over it? There won’t be any problem, right?”
These weren’t just technical doubts; they were the voice of someone who didn’t want to mess up his last big attempt before his wedding.
How the Coach Simplified a Complex Routine
The coach knew that clarity and routine are what turn a kit into a treatment. So he slowed down and broke it into simple, repeatable steps for Neeraj.
First focus: dandruff. For the first one - two months, Traya would work almost exclusively on his scalp, because, as the coach said, “Pehle aapke dandruff ke upar hi work kiya jata hai. Dandruff jaise hi kam ho jata hai, tab aapko serum pe switch kiya jata hai.”
The plan looked like this in Neeraj’s daily life.
At night, on three nights a week, he would apply the Anti-dandruff Night Lotion all over the scalp and leave it overnight. This lotion contains 2% ketoconazole, a clinically used antifungal that directly targets the Malassezia fungus causing his oily dandruff, while calming inflammation and itch.
In the morning, after a dandruff-lotion night, he would warm the Scalp Oil bottle slightly in warm water so it returns to liquid. Then he would use it twice a week, massaging it into his scalp and leaving it for at least thirty minutes. The oil he had was Traya’s Scalp Oil, into which he’d mix the Dandruff Therapy booster oil shot. This blend of coconut oil, amla, bhringraj, and other herbs, plus essential oils tailored to dandruff and scalp irritation, would nourish hair follicles, improve blood circulation, and help keep the scalp healthy while the antifungal did its job.
He would then wash with the Anti-dandruff Shampoo two - three times a week, using normal (not very hot) water. The coach confirmed his suspicion: very hot water can worsen scalp dryness and irritation, so it was worth avoiding.
Alongside this, the oral supplements from his kit would quietly do their work. Hair Ras would support hair and overall tissue nourishment while helping balance internal heat and stress. A Health Tatva - type supplement in his kit would support digestion and nutrient absorption so his gut didn’t slow down the benefits reaching his hair. And the Hair Vitamin would cover nutritional gaps with biotin, minerals, and natural DHT blockers like pumpkin seed extract and bhringraj - critical insurance when you’ve had low B12 and inconsistent nutrition.
The coach summed it up for him: first two months, we calm the scalp and gut; after dandruff settles, we add a growth serum like minoxidil again for regrowth, especially since his pattern was already at Stage 2.
Building Confidence Before the Wedding
Underneath every “sir, ek cheez aur puchhni thi” was the same worry: will I still be shedding so much by the time of my wedding?
The coach didn’t overpromise, but he did set a clear expectation. If Neeraj stayed consistent, he would see dandruff reducing in the first one - two months, followed by a gradual reduction in hair fall from around the third month. By the fifth or sixth month, he could expect changes in hair quality, density, and texture - exactly when he wanted to feel his best.
He also nudged Neeraj towards small but powerful lifestyle tweaks: better hydration, following the My Diet Plan in the Traya app for extra nutritional support, keeping bowel movements regular, and avoiding very hot water for hair washes. This holistic scaffolding is what turns iron deficiency hair fall recovery and dandruff control into something sustainable.
Most importantly, the coach made sure Neeraj knew this was not a one-time conversation. “In fifteen days, book another call,” he said, inviting updates, doubts, and course corrections.
By the end of the call, Neeraj’s questions had shifted from “Can I put this over that?” to a simple, satisfied “Okay sir, okay.” He had a structure, a reason behind every step, and a team watching his progress.
