Neeraj’s Wake-Up Call After a Head Shave

Traya Journey at a Glance

  • Main concern: Neeraj noticed hair thinning, low volume, and small visible patches - especially after he shaved his head and it suddenly looked more obvious.
  • Context/root causes: Family-pattern hairline recession plus seasonal dandruff that flares up in winter (a common trigger for dandruff and dry scalp hair loss).
  • What he used: Minoxidil 5% (already using), Anti-dandruff Shampoo, Scalp Oil mixed with Growth Therapy booster, and internal support with Hair Ras, Health Tatva, and Hair Vitamin.
  • Timeline he was guided on: Early focus on internal health and dandruff control in 1–2 months, better follicle/scalp health by 3–4 months, and visible change after ~5 months with consistency.
  • Outcome/shift: More clarity, less panic, and a realistic plan: control hair fall, improve thickness, and protect the hairline from getting worse - while monitoring regrowth expectations.

The moment it became “visible”

A lot of people don’t panic when hair fall is slow. They panic when it becomes undeniable.

For Neeraj, a 33-year-old working professional, that moment came after a decision that seemed harmless: he shaved his head. With longer hair, he could “hide” what was changing. But once the hair was short, he couldn’t unsee it.

“I felt it’s visible right now,” he said. “Earlier my hair was longer, so it wasn’t visible… but when I cut it short, the volume loss showed.”

He wasn’t talking about dramatic hair shedding. He described “small small patches” where the volume had dropped, a thinning pattern at the front “like male pattern,” and a spot at the back where the scalp looked more noticeable. And then came the thought most people try not to say out loud: “My father also had this… I’m not sure I can bring that hairline back.”

When thinning isn’t loud, but it’s persistent

Neeraj had been dealing with this for around two years. And because it wasn’t “rigorous hair fall,” it stayed in the grey zone - easy to postpone, easy to downplay.

He even mentioned that if he uploaded a photo, it might not look like a big issue. That’s the tricky part about early thinning: it can be invisible to everyone else, but very loud in your own mirror.

By the time he joined Traya, his goal was simple and deeply relatable: he wanted the back patches and low-volume areas to improve “volumetrically,” so that even with short hair it wouldn’t look obvious.

The hidden context: genetics plus seasonal scalp stress

Neeraj’s story had two important layers.

The first was family pattern recession. He clearly linked his hairline changes to what he’d seen in his father: “Family side se hairline recede ho raha hai.” That matters because many people don’t start treatment early when they assume genetics will “win anyway.”

The second layer was scalp health - specifically, mild dandruff in winter. He said it shows up seasonally, around winter months. Even mild dandruff can create itch and scalp discomfort, and if it leads to scratching or inflammation, it can contribute to breakage and more noticeable thinning. That’s why dandruff and dry scalp hair loss becomes a common pairing in real life.

Traya’s approach here wasn’t to dramatize it. It was to treat it like what it is: a fixable barrier to healthier follicles and better-looking density.

Q: Can dandruff actually worsen hair fall?

Yes - especially when dandruff triggers itching and repeated scratching. Clearing dandruff helps improve scalp comfort and supports an environment where healthier hair growth can continue.

The doubts he voiced - without overreacting

Neeraj didn’t sound panicked. He sounded cautious.

He asked directly about hairline regrowth: “Hairline… regrowth hoga?” The coach answered honestly - hairline regrowth can be difficult - but also offered hope based on observation in some cases. The bigger reassurance was equally important: the plan would aim to improve what’s possible and prevent it from getting worse.

He also wanted to do more on his own. He’d started using a dermaroller independently for the last 4–5 days, hoping it would “make some impact.” It’s a very human response: when you don’t know what’s working, you try everything.

That’s where guidance matters.

The turning point: a plan that felt doable

Instead of overwhelming him, the coach narrowed Neeraj’s focus to consistency and timing.

He was told to pause the dermaroller for now - because when a treatment has just started, the scalp needs time to adjust. The call was also set up to transfer him to the doctor for proper guidance since he had already been using minoxidil 5% for a month.

Most importantly, Neeraj got a timeline he could hold onto. He was told the journey is gradual: in the first 1–2 months the focus is internal health and dandruff control, then by months 3–4 scalp and follicular health improves and hair fall starts to control, and by around five months he should begin noticing visible changes.

Neeraj’s biggest question was simple: “Volumetrically growth mujhe dikhega, right?”
And he was reassured: yes, visible changes typically start showing after consistent use - around the five-month mark.

This is what a personalized hair treatment plan looks like in real life: not magic, not panic, just a routine that you can repeat long enough for results to show.

What Neeraj used - and why it matched his needs

Neeraj’s kit was designed to cover both scalp care and internal support.

He was guided to use Minoxidil serum (1 ml morning and 1 ml at night), applied on visible scalp without rubbing or massaging. The coach also prepared him for a common early phase: shedding. He was told that in the initial weeks, hair fall can increase as weaker hair sheds - so healthier hair can come in.

For his mild seasonal dandruff, he was told to use the Anti-dandruff Shampoo (Ketoconazole 2%) twice a week. This shampoo is meant to reduce dandruff, prevent further fungal growth, and soothe inflammation so the scalp stays healthier.

He also received Scalp Oil along with a booster oil (Growth Therapy), mixed into one bottle and used twice a week before shampoo. Traya’s Scalp Oil is made with a coconut oil base and a traditional medicated process (sneh pak dravya), aimed at nourishing the scalp and supporting circulation to hair follicles. Neeraj even noticed the oil had solidified due to winter - he was told that’s normal with coconut oil and can be fixed by placing it in warm water or sunlight.

Internally, he was told to take Hair Ras (2 tablets morning and 2 at night) and Health Tatva (1 tablet morning and 1 at night), after meals. In Traya’s Ayurvedic logic, Hair Ras supports daily nourishment and works on balancing Pitta and improving circulation to follicles, while Health Tatva supports digestion and nutrient absorption - because when absorption is poor, follicles don’t get the building blocks they need. Many people understand “what you eat matters,” but fewer notice the digestion and hair fall connection until a coach explains it in everyday language.

Finally, he was told to take Hair Vitamin daily, after breakfast, to support nutritional gaps that can affect hair quality.

Resolution: from “Is it too late?” to “I can stick to this”

Neeraj wasn’t looking for overnight change. He was looking for a path that felt realistic - especially with family history in mind.

By the end of the call, he had something many people don’t get when they self-treat: a routine, a timeline, and follow-ups. He even scheduled his next check-in because he understood that hair recovery isn’t one heroic week - it’s repetition.

And that is often the real transformation: not just new hair, but the return of control.
